Sthaneshwar Mahadev Temple, Thanesar, Haryana

Sthaneshwar Mahadev Temple is located in the holy town known as Thanesar, in the district of Kurukshetra, in the state of Haryana. This particular temple is an ancient temple in India. The temple is largely dedicated to Lord Shiva.

According to the local legends, Pandavas prayed at this temple for the victory in the battle of Mahabharata. On the other hand, Shri Tegh Bahadur, the ninth Guru of Sikhism stayed at Sthaneshwar Tirtha near the Sthaneshwar Mahadev Temple. This is marked in the Gurwara that is just besides this particular temple.

The tank near the temple is regarded much sacred. A few drop of water has immediately cured the leprosy that was suffered by King Ban. According to the Hindu scholar and pundits, no pilgrimage of devotes in Kurukshetra is strongly believed to be complete without worshiping at this ancient holy temple. In this temple, special pujas and rituals are conducted during the days of Amavasya and Purnima.

It is to be remembered that Pournami is the full moon day in India. Most of the Hindu communities, from morning to evening observe a fast on the day. It is to be noted that as per the traditional calendar of North India most of the rituals are conducted in this temple. It is to be noted that Lord Shiva is largely hailed by all the Vedic texts and scriptures as the one and only God for all the poojas in order to bring all round prosperity, to attain all desires and remove all evils.
