Sri Veeratteswarar Temple, Keel Padappai 

Of the Veeratta class temples, this belongs to the sub-class. Lord Vinayaka is praised as Shanta Vinayaka. The Vimana-the tower above the sanctum sanctorum- is of Padma design. Sri Agora Veerabadra graces from a shrine facing north. Special pujas are performed here with betel leaves on full moon days and four pujas are performed on Shivrathri days. There are also shrines for Kalatheeswarar, Shani Bagwan and Lord Muruga with His consorts Valli and Deivanai. Guru puja for saint Tirunavukkarasar is celebrated on Chithirai Sadhaya star day in April-May and for saint Sundarar on the Aadi Swati star day in July-August with special pujas and Alankaras. While Tirunavukkarasu Swamigal comes in procession in a palanquin on the day, Sundarar graces the procession on an elephant based on the history that He reached the Lord in Mount Kailash on the white elephant. Devotees believe that this darshan would bless them with salvation.

Devotees pray for self-confidence, freedom from fear and for consolation and peace of mind from wrong punishment suffered though innocent and to be away from the wicked.

Realizing their wishes, devotees perform abishek and Vilwa archanas to Lord offering vastras.

Speciality of Sri Veeratteswarar Temple, Keel Padappai

Planet Moon appears in the front Mandap of the temple with flowers in his hand showing his worship to Lord Shiva in the past. The idol is made of a single stone on a pillar. The Navagraha shrine in the corridor-prakara is on a lotus designed peeta.

Opening Timings

The temple is open from 7.00 a.m. to 10.00 a.m. and from 5.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m.

  • Guru Puajas for Saivite Saints Tirunavukkarasar and Sundarar, Tirukarthikai in December-January and Mahashivarathri in February-March are the festivals of the temple.
