Sri Sholingaswami Temple, Somalingapuram in Dindigul

Sri Sholingaswami temple is located in Somalingapuram in the district of Dindigul in the state of Tamil Nadu in south India. The principal deity of this temple is Sholingaswami.

The holy tree is Vilwa and holy water is Vedhi theertham in this temple. The temple is nearly 500 years old. The important festivals in this temple are all Pradosham days that is perfectly falling on the 13th day from full moon or new moon days, Chitra Poornima in April-May, Shivrathri in February-March, Annabishekam in October-November, Aadi Amavasya-new moon day in July-August and Tirukarthikai in November-December.

The temple’s specialty is at the foot hill of Harikesha Parvatham. The hill looks like the Shivalingam and divine snake Adishesha is holding an umbrella.

Lord Vinayaka and Nandhi the bull vehicle of Lord Shiva are located under the Vilwa and Neem trees before the principal deity. The temple is open from early morning to dusk. Special prayers and rituals are conducted for the devotees for removing the bad effects of the past birth, women pray for longevity of husbands and the safety of their mangal sutras and removal of obstacle in marriage talks. In order to realize the devotee’s wishes and desires, they perform abishek to Lord.

Special pujas are conducted on Amavasya, Pradosham, Shivrathri and Poornima days. It is to be noted that sacred spring Veda Theertha contains several herbal properties that cures severe stomach pain. Devotees from nook and corner of Tamil Nadu visit this temple and even devotes from the neighboring state of Kerala too.
