Sri Nallathangal Temple, Vatrayiruppu in Virudhunagar

Sri Nallathangal temple is located in the village named Vatrayiruppu, in the small town Srivilliputhur, in the district of Virudhunagar, in the state of Tamil Nadu. It is the one and only temple in the state that is largely dedicated to Lord Nallathangal.

This temple is about 1000-2000 years old. The presiding deity of this temple is Nallathangal. The important festivals of this temple are Navarathri in September-October. Tamil New Year, Deepawali, Pongal, all the days of Purnima and Amavasya celebrate in grand manner.

This temple is kept open continuously from early morning to evening without a break for Lord’s Darshan for the devotees. According to the local legends, the goddess Nallathangal lived here in this land during the ancient times and still blesses the people living in this earth with her divine power attained through chastity and goodness.

It is to be noted that Vatrayiruppu is blessed with a perennial water sources named Arjuna River that makes the land fertile green fields in the region of Srivilliputhur Taluk. This place is referred as “Kutti Malayalam” because of its lush greenery that resembles like Kerala.

A large number of devotes visit this temple seeking child boon and total welfare of their children. It is to be noted that devotees wholeheartedly place cradles made of lime before the Goddess. The naming ceremony also happens in this temple. Most of the boy child is named as Nallathangal and the girl child is named as Nallthambi. Even the devotees indulge in tonsuring during the auspicious and religious important days.
