Sri Azhagia Shanta Manavala Perumal temple is located in Vathirairuppu, in the district of Virudhunagar, in the state of Tamil Nadu. It is about 500-1000 years old.
The presiding deity is Azhagia Shanta Manavala Perumal and the mother Goddess is Padmavathi Thayar. The holy tree is Uranga Puli and the holy water is Iranga Kinaru- which literally meaning a well in which none go down.
This place is mentioned as Dharmaranya Kshetram in the ancient texts and literatures. The important festivals that are grandly celebrated in this temple are Purattasi Saturdays in September-October, Aadi Pooram in July-August, purnima and amavasya days as per the Hindu religious calendar.
The temple’s specialty is that the presiding deity Lord Azhagia Shanta Manavala Perumal graces the devotees facing east holding the lower right assuring boons to devotees (abhayahastha), His discus and conch in the upper hands and the left holding a club. In the temple, there are two Garudas, one sitting in a worshipping form keeping two hands together and the other carrying the Lord and ready to fly.
Devotees visit this temple on all purnima days for special offerings and darshan of the Goddesses in order to get their wishes and desires fulfilled. A large crowd is witnessed on Mondays and Fridays.
Special Pujas and ceremonial rituals are conducted in a grand manner on all the Hindu religious festival days and other auspicious days in this temple. The family members indulge in this pooja in order to appease lord and achieve a person’s aims and desires fulfilled.
