Significance of Thai Amavasai – January 30 2014

According to Tamil calendar, Thai Amavasai comes on the new moon day of the Thai Masam which is between January and February.

In the year 2014, this falls on 30th of January 2014.

On this day, people do tharpanam and shradh for their ancestors. This is also the first amavasai of the utharayana kala.

People observe fast on this day to get the blessings of their ancestors. It is believed that the ancestors will attain moksha and will bless the people.
