Shani Amavasya ‘Shani Palat Mahotsav’ at Sitabuldi, Nagpur

The 100-year-old temple in Sitabuldi is located in Nagpur district in Maharashtra. It is very popular among the Hindu devotees because of the ‘Shani Palat Mahotsav’ happening here according to the traditional and religious Hindu calendar.

It is to be noted that thousands of devotees from nook and corner of India and abroad visit this temple on the day of Shani Amavasya. Most of the Hindu families along with their family members, relatives and friends visit this age-old temple.

According to a devotee who visit this temple on every Shani Amavasya said, “The rush was so big that many had to be content by visiting other temples. Around 1,000 devotees visit the Sitabuldi temple on weekdays. On Saturdays, the number swells to 25,000 but yesterday, I fear, the number was three times that, Shani Palat’ is beneficial for those whose sunsigns are Cancer, Aries, Gemini and Sagittarius according to Hindu calendar.”

It is to be noted that Saturn (Shani), the planet with rings, has directly touches people’s lives and each and every aspects of their physical world. An astrologer while speaking on the significance of the Shani Amavasya said, “Thirty years ago, in 1977, the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had to step down and there were a lot of political upheavals in the country. Prior to this, in 1947, we got independence but thousands were killed in communal riots.”

The devotees understand the importance of Shani Amavasya in their personal and professional life. Therefore they do all type of rituals and prayer to reduce the negative affects from bad energy surrounding them.
