Mishti Doi is a fermented sweet yogurt and a very popular dessert in India. It is a must have dish during Navratri for many Indians. It is special in the sense that earthernware is used as the container for making this dish.
This not only helps it get the right temperature but the smell of the pot in itself adds a flavour to the dessert. It can be cooked in about half an hour but needs an incubation time of nearly 12 hours. So it is best done overnight. Now lets see how to make delicious Mishti Doi.
Ingredients required to make delicious Mishti Doi:
- One litre of Full Cream Milk (Rick Milk)
- 5 Table Spoons of Sugar
- 1 Table Spoon of Yogurt
- 1 Earthern Pot (You could use any material, but this is so special, try it once and see the difference)
Take some milk in a vessel and heat it till it boils. Then add about 4 tablespoons of sugar and keep on simmering till it reduces to half the quantity. Then take the remaining sugar with 2 tablespoons of water and heat till the sugar melts and attains a golden brown colour.
Add this mixture to the milk and boil for another 15 minutes. Put it into the earthern pot and add the yogurt. Keep this in a cool place and let it settle overnight. Finally, refrigerate the set dahi and serve it chilled as a dessert.
