Mazhuvannur Maha Siva Kshethram in Wayanad

An ancient Hindu Temple in Kerala is Mazhuvannur Maha Siva Kshethram. It is located at the foot of Banasura Hills in the district of Wayanad, in the state of Kerala in south India.

The presiding deity is Lord Shiva in the sanctum-sanctorum. The other deities in the temple premises are Lord Ganapathi, Lord Ayyappa, nandhi, sree durga and Arayil Bhagavathy.

The temple is perfectly situated on the highest peak in the region of Tharuvana, Paliyana and Karingari. It is to be highly noted that from dates unknown, Daily poojas are performed without any break. The popular Mazhuvannur Thekke Illam family members are in-charge of the poojas and rituals in this temple.

In this temple, special pujas and rituals are conducted by the head priest on the days of Amavasya and Purnima for the devotees. The other important festivals celebrated in this temple are Aaayudha pooja, Vishu, Onam. Daily evening pooja is carried out during the sabarimala season. Special bhajan programs and humoms are conducted for the resident devotees and people from far of places. It is to be remembered that “Annadanam” is offered on the first day of each and every month of the Hindu calendar year.
