Kudroli Gokarnanatha Temple in Mangalore: Purnima Puja

Kudroli Gokarnanatha Temple of Lord Gokarnanatheshwara is the personification of Lord Shiva. It is situated about 3 km from Mangalore, in the state of Karnataka. This place has historic association related to the ruler, Tipu Sultan.

According to the local legends, this particular place was used for grazing the horses during those days. Therefore the temple is named so with reference to the name of a horse namely Kudre.

This temple earlier looked like a structure of Keralian style and now it is in form of chola style. In this temple Lord Sri Gokarnanatha was pivotal lord of Kudroli Sri Gokarnanatha Kshetra which was founded by saint Narayana Guru in the year 1912. Apart from Gokarnanatha (Lord Shiva), Lord Ganapathy, Lord Subramanya, Goddess Annapoorneshwari, Lord Bhairava, the Nava Grahas and Lord Shaneshwara are the other idols in this temple.

The Navratri Utsav is celebrated whole heartedly with great devotion at this place; this festival known as Mangalore dasara in Karnataka. All the devotees gather here to experience the navrati utsav at Kudroli Gokarnanatha Temple. The place is decorated with the idols of Nav durga, life size idols, Ganapati which makes this place more attractive.

Apart from the navratri festival Maha Shivaratri, Deepavali, Nagara Panchami, Sri Krishnashtami, purnima, Amavasya, Ganesh Chaturthi and Sri Narayana Jayanthi are celebrated in this temple.
