Karimpuzha Sree Ramaswamy Temple in Ottapalam, Kerala

Karimpuzha Sree Ramaswamy Temple is located in a village named Karimpuzha in Ottapalam taluk, in the district of Palakkad, in the state of Kerala.It is located on the river named Karimpuzha River which is one of the main tributaries of the famous Bharathapuzha River. It is to be noted that Bharathapuzha is the fourth longest river in Kerala, South India.

On the banks of this River, a famous Sree Ramaswamy Temple is also situated. This particular temple was owned by popular Kozhikode Samoodhiripad – Eralpad, it is to be remembered that the heir to become Samoodhiri, who had his attractive and beautiful “Kovilakam” in Karimpuzha. According to the Hindu religious scholars and pundits, the Sree Ramaswamy temple is called as “Dakshina Ayodhya”.

In this temple, special offerings, rituals and Poojas are conducted according to the ancient practices and Vedic rules. The local legends strongly believed that Lord Sree Rama renunciated his personal life here in the river Karimpuzha (thus River Sarayu eventually). During his last moments Sree Rama is accompanied by Hanuman only, which strongly justifies the presence of Hanuman here in the form of an idol in this temple. It is to be highly noted that this temple is largely considered as one of the rarest ‘Mahakshetrams’ in Kerala.

In this temple, special purnima pujas are also conducted in grand manner according to the Hindu religious calendar and vedic rules. Devotees from nook and corner of kerala visit this temple on festive days and auspicious days with great dedication and devotion.
