Kanakadurga temple in Vijayawada: Purnima Puja

Sri Kanakadurga templeis located in Kanakapuri, Indirakila Parvatham, in the district of Vijayawada, in the state of Andhra Pradesh. Its official name is Sri Kanaka Durgai Amman Temple. The presiding deity is Sri Kanaka Durgeswari.

The temple is nearly 1000-2000 years old. As per the ancient texts and inscriptions, this place name is mentioned as Bezwada and Bijapuri. A grandly celebrated festival of this particular temple is Navarathri in September-October.

The temple iremains opened during the morning hours and evening hours. Devotees from nook and corner of Andhra Pradesh and neighboring states of Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu participate with great devotion and dedication in Girivalam.

It is one of the Shakthi Peetas in the country. The god is popularly known as Malleswarar. The temple is open from early morning to before mid noon and later from evening hours to dusk daily for the devotees. According to the historians, King Tribuvana of the Chalukya dynasty has built this temple. Another version is that that the original temple at this hill was built by Dharma, the eldest of the Pandava brothers. Moreover, it was Sage Agasthya who installed the Shivalinga at this spot and named the Goddess as Malleswara.

It is to be noted that in the Sanctum Sanctorum, the presiding deities and procession deities are safely and protectively kept in a glass place. In this temple, devotees pray for prosperity in life and for safety from enemies and they conduct archanas and abishek for Goddess Kanaka Durga with lot of dedication and devotion.
