Jyeshta Amavasya

Jyeshta Amavasya also known as Savithri Amavasya is observed during the Jyesthta Masa as per Hindu Calender. According to English Calender, it falls around the month of May – June.

Jyeshta Amavasya is significant when it comes to certain rituals. On this day, Lord Brahma, Savithri and Satyavan are worshipped along with the Vat tree.

It is believed that women who perform this vrat get blessed with the long life of their husbands and enjoy a happy marital life.

Jyeshta Amavasya is also ideal for offering shradh and tarpan to deceased ancestors. It gives relief from sins and debts. People usually have the ritualistic bath early in the morning and perform the shradh ceremony.

Later they distribute food and clothes to the needy people. This will give them the blessings of elders and remove the malefic effects of pitru dosha.
