Hartalika Teej

In North Indian states, especially in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh, Teej festivity is grandly observed with much fanfare by women. It is to be highly noted that there are three famous Teej(s) that are grandly celebrated by women during Bhadrapada and Sawan months. The names of three Teej are Hariyali Teej, Kajari Teej and Hartalika Teej. The other Teej festivals such as Akha Teej are also called as Akshaya Tritiya. It is to be remembered that Gangaur Tritiya is not part and parcel of above three Teej(s).

According to the Hindu religious calendar, Haritalika Teej is grandly celebrated during Shukla Paksha Tritiya of Bhadrapada month. This particular Haritalika Teej comes most of the time celebrated one day before Ganesh Chaturthi and one month after Hariyali Teej. Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati are worshipped with great devotion and dedication during Haritalika Teej by women. The images of gold are made in clay and worshipped by all the Hindus.

As per the Hindu religious scholars and pundits, “Hartalika Teej, a beautiful festival for women to impress Goddess Parvati who blesses them with a marriage like Shiva & Parvati, or healthy life of their husbands.” This festival is observed according to the lunar Hindu calendar by the Hindus. On the other hand, this festive day is much popular and famous amongst the people of India. It is basically a north Indian festival that also has some regional names in certain areas of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. Hindus enchant Goddess Parvati for her direct and wholehearted blessings. They pray for good health and wealth. Married women pray for the long life of their husbands. It is to be highly noted that even unmarried women with devotion and dedication pray to get a husband like Lord Shiva. People visit the nearest temple and participate in the religious activities and functions.
