The Rising Heights Ganesh Mandal in Hasmatpet, last year had the usual clay Ganesh idol but this year it is replaced by a bigger one. Now the regular pooja will be done by a priest, previously pooja was done by any resident of the apartment voluntarily. Yes changes of large scale or small scale are happening in the Ganesh Utsav 2012.
Ajay Singh, secretary an apartment block said, “The prasadam too will no more be homemade; we are getting laddoos from elsewhere and the children will be putting up a colorful show each evening. This is something different we are doing this year.”
In Karkhana, an idol maker is selling a unique Ganesh idol that is named as “Baby Ganesha idols”. It is just less than 5 feet tall. You can find the face of Laughing Buddha under the elbow of the Ganesha. The idol maker said, “Ganesha removes hurdles and the laughing Buddha attracts prosperity. Buyers want something new each time, so we brought these idols.”
In Hyderabad and Secunderabad, there seems intense competition during this Ganesh Utsav 2012 between apartment buildings and among pandals. On Ganesh puja and celebrations, the rising prices or any other factors isn’t limiting the spending. In this situation the traders are cashing in on.
A pandal contractor in Begum Bazar, Akhram Razi said, “The experienced ones are going to do the public pandals. Experts from Dhoolpet are all engaged in erecting pandals with specific designs and sizes at big venues. Those with less experience will be doing work for offices, apartments and colonies.”
