Eco-Ganesh idol crusaders on action

Recently at the Sophia College festival, Kaleidoscope 2012, the Times Green Ganesh (TGG) Ambassador programme titled eco-friendly Ganeshotsav was successfully launched. This particular programme was launched in order to bring awareness and encourage the youngsters to largely spearhead the campaign for good cause during this ongoing Ganesh festival.

It is to be noted that Times Green Ganesha is powered by the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) and is presented by IRB Infrastructure Ltd. RCF Ltd is a co-sponsor. 9XM and Zee Marathi are TV partners.

The main motive of each and every TGG Ambassador is to spread the word in his/her area and in the neighborhoods the strong message of eco-friendly Ganeshotsav. They will also personally meet Ganesh mandals members, households and senior society’s members in order to largely undertake eco-friendly activities and actions. A main campaign is undertaken for sensitize the youth about the environment-related offences and adverse effects of pollution.

The National Social Service (NSS) and Times Green Ganesh (TGG) have made an agreement for an outreach programme. An idol-making workshop was successfully conducted with the assistance of the Museum Society of Bombay, department of Ancient Indian Culture and St Xavier’s College. Nearly 1,200 students from 20 colleges across Maharashtra participated in it.

Even children from Bhavishyayaan, RTT School, Indian Cancer Society, and the Spastics Society participated in it. On the other hand similar type of workshops was conducted at KC College and HR College and SIWS College Wadala. The main participants were KC College principal Manju Nichani, Professors from the Sir JJ School of Art (sculpture), NGO Envirovigil led by Prof Vidyadhar Walavalkar and Dr Anuradha Natarajan.
