Aloo Posto Recipe

With festival season on the way, its time for Bengali delicacy and Aloo Posto is never the one to be missed. Its generally eaten as a dry accompaniment to a meal of rice and curries. Lets see how to make delicious Aloo Posto.

Ingredients required to make Aloo Posto:

  • 5 to 6 medium sized potatoes
  • 2 green chillies( if you need it spicy , you can add more of this)
  • 2 table spoon mustard oil
  • 1 table spoon pure ghee (some people would like to add butter instead of ghee, its your choice)
  • half table spoon onion seeds ( also known as kalonji)
  • 4 table spoon poppy seeds (also known as khuskhus)
  • salt to taste

Process of Making Aloo Posto:

Now, Lets see how to make delicious Aloo Posto. Cut the potatoes into small pieces ( do not make it too small, keep the size about an inch) and soak them in water. Use warm water as it is better and soak poppy seeds in one cup of water for about 15 minutes.

After that, grind the poppy seeds to make a fine paste and keep it aside. Now, heat some mustard oil in a pan and then let it cool for sometime. After that again heat it and mix in kalonji and fry it for some time.

Then mix the chopped potato pieces and stir fry on medium heat for about 5 minutes. Then, mix in the poppy seeds paste which you had prepared earlier and stir it. Put half a cup of water and stir fry on low heat till the potatoes are fully cooked.

Lastly mix some salt and green chillies as desired. Continue to stir for some time and in the end add some ghee or butter and your aloo posto is ready to be served hot.
